All about Kittens. Series 2: Getting your home ready for your new baby!

Are you excited to welcome a new kitten into your home? Whether you’re considering a playful British Shorthair or a sweet Ragdoll, it’s important to prepare your home before your furry friend arrives. At Gem Stone Village, we have adorable kittens for sale in Singapore and want to help you get everything ready for your new pet. Here are some tips to make sure your home is perfect for your kitten’s arrival.

1. Set Up a Cozy Space

Kittens, like British Shorthairs and Ragdolls, are naturally curious but can be shy in a new place. Create a small, quiet area where they can feel safe and explore at their own pace. Include:

  • A soft bed or blanket for them to rest.

  • A scratching post for them to play with and use.

  • Food and water bowls in a calm spot.

  • A litter box placed away from their eating area.

2. Get the Essentials

Before your kitten comes home, make sure you have everything they need:

  • Food: If you are unsure of what to feed your kitten, we can advise you about the best food for your kitten. For instance, British Shorthairs might need food that helps their strong build, while Ragdolls benefit from food for their fluffy coats.

  • Litter Box and Litter: Choose an easy-to-use litter box and high-quality litter that doesn’t create too much dust. We generally recommend tofu litter and are using it in our shop!

  • Toys: Kittens love to play, so get toys that will keep them active and happy.

  • Grooming Tools: Ragdolls need regular brushing to keep their fur looking great, while British Shorthairs only need occasional grooming.

3. Make Your Home Kitten-Proof

Kittens love to explore, so you’ll need to make sure your home is safe:

  • Keep electrical cords out of reach.

  • Remove small objects they could swallow.

  • Block access to high shelves or windows they could climb on.

  • Check that all houseplants are safe for cats, as some can be toxic.

4. Visit the Vet

During the first week after bringing your kitten home, take them to a veterinarian for a check-up. This makes sure they’re healthy and up-to-date on their vaccinations. At Gem Stone Village, we provide all the necessary health records and advice for the kittens we sell in Singapore.

5. Introduce Them Slowly

Introducing your kitten to other pets or people in your home should be done gradually. Let your kitten meet everyone at their own speed to keep them calm. British Shorthairs are known for being calm and great with kids, while Ragdolls’ friendly nature makes them good at getting along with other pets.

6. Stick to a Routine

Kittens feel safe when they have a routine. Set regular times for feeding, playing, and sleeping. British Shorthairs appreciate stability, while Ragdolls love bonding time with their owners.
